effeciency

i have held true to my guns that it's better to teach people how to help themselves then it is to do their work for them.
My question: how long must i 'teach' before i can expect them to start being able to do their own work?
i thought 18 months was fair, but this morning I found myself showing a person how to use windows explorer to COPY a file to another location. What on earth. next it'll be how to press the green button on the copy machine.

how long must we wait for you to be able to spell efficiency correcly, and all those other words? you went to school for 17 years right?
some people can spell, some people can copy files on a computer. yes some people are teachable and it is good to teach them how to do stuff on their computer. other people just don't care, like you don't care about spelling, so you are wasting your angst. just deal with the fact that your job is to do things for people on their computers. i don't expect everyone to understand that chemicals aren't all bad (although sometimes it still frustrates me when i hear all-natural).

i have what is called tollerence.
and i'm shelfish because i expect my skill set from most people.
example:
i just got back from a computer that was complaining it could not boot. the employee came to work this morning, found the computer ON in this state (they don't turn things off?), and simply kept hitting the reset button. then called me.
I went down, turned it off, turned it on, and it worked.
Lets look at the equation, and what variables we can vary so we can get this thing running.
I saw about 3 options without taking the skin off the computer - press ctrl-alt-del, press reset, and power it off and back on.
what on earth! they just called back to say it was not opening up their programs so they 'rebooted it'. Upon carefully worded questions I determiend that this means a heafty use of the RESET button. I gave them a quick tutorial on windows shut down. oh yea, this person in in their early 20's, and is in university. uhh - yeah. you were saying?
